Dependable Software Engineering in the Era of AI
Focal Topic
- Artificial Intelligence has delivered results ready for a growing class of software systems and development processes. Integration of these results is being pushed also for high-stakes industries, to afford higher levels of functional complexity and devops agility. Yet, while doing so, expected guarantees of integrity must be fully preserved, to comply with regulation constraints and principles of ethics.
- This challenge demands effective integration of bodies of knowledge in the areas of Dependable Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, with perspectives from SE and AI domains, academic or industrial.
The Flow of the Panel Discussion
This panel brings together leading researchers and practitioners to discuss:
- What are different and common views in the perspectives of SE and AI communities on the concepts of Dependability and Trustworthiness?
- How can concepts and means developed for Dependable SE be adapted to cope with new classes of threats raised by the complexity and unpredictability of AI systems? And, to this end, what are results that can be expected to come from the evolution on the AI side?
- How is the challenge exacerbated by the new class of SW components and devops tools delivered by LM-enabled agentic-AI

Debated contentious questions will include:
- which means are available and which are promising results to better cope with threats to dependability raised by the integration of AI-enabled software components and tools
- which areas of knowledge should be better shared on a common ground for SE and AI communities to jointly address the challenge of dependable AI-enabled software systems and processes
- for what classes of systems and functions can the integration of AI-enabled software components and devOps tools be conciliated with the levels of integrity demanded for real application
